Ana Maria Beltran Pavani holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1969), a Master of Engineering – Electrical Engineering from the City University of New York (1976) and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1983). Her post-doctoral research was performed at the City University of New York in 1985 and 1986.
Ana is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), where she has been working since 1976. She has experience in electrical engineering with emphasis on systems and has been dedicated to the study of educational content for the Internet since 1995. Her areas of interest are: applications of information and communication technology to education and culture; library, museum and digital archives; protocols for information processing based information and communication technology; and information systems.
In 2004 she won the NDLTD Leadership Award for leading the way to ETDs in Brazil and across the multilingual Latin American community. She still continues that service as a member of the NDLTD Board of Directors.
