Joachim Schöpfel is an associate professor in information and communication sciences at the University of Lille (France) and member of the GERiiCO laboratory.

From 1999 to 2008, he was head of the library and document delivery of INIST (CNRS); from 2009 to 2012, he directed the Department of Information Sciences at the University of Lille, and from 2012 to 2017, he was director of the French National Centre for the Reproduction of Theses (ANRT). 

Joachim holds a PhD in Psychology of the University of Hamburg (Germany). He is independent consultant and partner of the Ourouk consulting office at Paris. He has published several papers in the field of scientific communication and academic libraries, and he is member of the editorial board and peer reviewer on a couple of LIS journals.

Joachim’s research interests focus on scientific information, open repositories and research data management, research information management, and research ethics. He is particularly interested in grey literature as a challenge for academic libraries and as an alternative to the mainstream commercial academic publishing, and in particular in theses and dissertations.
