Dr. Allard joined the NDLTD Board of Directors in 2003 and has continued to enthusiastically support the organization in this role. Allard began working with ETDs in 1998 when, as a graduate student, she became interested in the documents’ role in promoting digital libraries and improving scholarly communication. An ETD was not required at the University of Kentucky at the time of her doctoral degree (2003), and her electronic dissertation, which focused on ETDs, was the first approved from College of Communication and Information.
Allard served as Executive Director of NDLTD for one year and as Assistant Executive Director and Vice Chair of the Board for over two years. She also served on the NDLTD conference committee, membership committee, public relations committee and executive committee. She was co-chair of the Seventh International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations (2004) and has helped with many others.
Allard’s current research continues to study knowledge creation and dissemination particularly focusing on the domains of science and engineering. Allard’s work related to information creator behavior is funded by several U.S. federal agencies and international foundations. She has spent more than a decade as a member of the team developing DataONE, a cyberinfrastructure for environmental science information.
Allard was a Board of Director for the Association for Science and Technology’s (ASIST) and was also a founding member and past chair of the Special Interest Group on Digital Libraries. She currently is a member of the Steering Committee for the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries. Allard is one of eleven Chancellor’s Professors at the University of Tennessee and the third Board of Visitor’s Professor in the College of Communication & Information.
